Try backwoods skiing in Finland

Try backwoods skiing in Finland

Ever fancied skiing backwoods (and we don’t mean skiing backwards!).  Whereabouts Holidays have introduced a six night guided trip where you can try just that.  The Finnish winter camping tour includes four full days of adventure in the wilderness in Lapland where you ski through forests with a sledge in tow.

Skiing in the Urho Kekkonen National Park in eastern Lapland, the tours run from February to April 2018 and cost £949pp excluding flights.   Participants ski with traditional Finnish skis, specially designed for forest conditions and carry their own camping gear on a sledge.  Everyone in the group, under supervision of an English speaking guide, helps set up camp, collect firewood, light campfires and cook meals.

Steven Rittey, product manager for Whereabouts Holidays said: This amazing adventure is for those who want to really get off the beaten track. You’ll ski on unprepared trails through forests, swamps and lakes pulling your own sledge. This is a wonderful way to truly escape from the rat race and immerse yourself in an experience like no other.  This tour takes you through the winter wilderness in this breath-taking national park and allows you to enjoy evenings sitting around an open fire chatting to new found friends and, if lucky, witness the incredible sight of the Northern Lights.  And what better way to finish the trip than jumping in to a steaming hot Finnish sauna?”
