Blogging & Vlogging: How to record your adventure holiday!

Blogging & Vlogging: How to record your adventure holiday!

There’s no doubt your adventure holiday will be one of the most memorable experiences of your life.

There are few feelings in life that compare to getting to grips with nature in a new setting.

That’s why you’ll want to record your journey.

Photos are the most traditional way to preserve all your holiday memories.

But what can you do beyond this?

As we have progressed into the digital age, travellers and holiday makers have adapted new methods of documenting their trips.

Two of the most popular being blogs and vlogs.

If you’re not in the know, here’s some useful info:

Blogs are online journal entries that can be shared with the public on a huge scale.

Vlogs are “video blogs” – a self-recorded video entry documenting you, your thoughts, your life etc.

From this it’s easy to see why these two forms of expression are perfect for letting people know all about your amazing holiday.

You can talk about anything you want in a blog or a vlog. If there’s an audience for it, even better!

And there’s definitely an audience for holiday, adventure and travel enthusiasts.

In fact, according to the Expeida Group, consumption of digital travel content sees double-digit growth year-over-year.

So you know it’s popular! Now… how do you get started?

If you’re looking to set up a blog to document your awesome adventure holiday, WordPress is a great place to start.

WordPress is a content management platform used by millions worldwide to manage all the content for their websites.

It’s estimated that 27% of all websites in the world are powered by WordPress, so you know it’s trustworthy.

But you don’t need WordPress to build a website; you need it to build a blog…

There are plenty of easy-to-use templates specifically catered to uploading blogs, so you’ll definitely find one that matches your personal taste or the look you’re going for.

Then it’s simply a case of following a few easy to understand instructions (all available through WordPress) to keep your blog updated with all the juicy notes, thoughts and photos from your trip!

Then it’s a matter of spreading the word – Send the link to your blog to all your friends and family. And anybody you think would be interested in reading it!

The more you keep it updated and the more you use relevant tags and keywords (you’ll learn all about those as you go) the more of a chance your blog has to be seen by the masses!

Beyond WordPress there are other blog services, like Blogger. It just depends on finding one that works for you!

Before you know it you’ll be sharing everything from the delicious food you’ve sampled during your adventure holiday in Italy, to the glorious coastal breeze of sunny Spain.

Now, onto vlogs…

Thanks to the abundance of video technology today and the ease of sharing video files online, vlogging is a natural progression of sharing content for the modern digital age.

The YouTube explosion was the “Big Bang” of the online video content world and vlogging quickly became one of if not the most popular video content on the platform.

Now, the most successful bloggers share the same kind of influence over viewers as their movie & TV celebrity counterparts.

Crazy, isn’t it?

And ‘Travel Vloggers’ make up a significant portion of this.

Because it gives viewers the chance to see places they’ve never been before. Opening them up to views and experiences that might have always remained closed off to them, if not for the footage captured by another.

Plus, thanks to the ridiculous clarity in which video content can be captured (HD, 4K) there’s arguably never been a better time to jump on the travel vlog bandwagon.

But what can you do to vlog your adventure holiday?

Many vloggers choose to optimise their mobile phones as vlogging cameras as many of the newer models can successfully capture full 4K video – one of the highest resolutions available at the moment.

If you’re able to use your phone’s video mode you’re good to go!

Or, if you’re also a photography enthusiast and have a decent DSLR camera that can record video, this would also be ideal and might even produce a better video.

Imagine visiting the staggering mountainous landscapes of Norway and not being able to record the experience? The missed-chance of a lifetime!

Simply record your surroundings and offer a running commentary to get your vlog moving.

If you want to spice things up a bit, you could film and talk about things like the food, the shopping experience, the culture. Anything you think an audience for this type of video would find interesting.

But don’t forget to inject a bit of personality into your vlogs.

Like classic TV talk show, the key to any successful show is the host.

When you record a vlog that’s exactly what you’re doing. You’re the host. So try to keep it interesting.

Then, once you’ve recorded all the amazing footage you can from your trip, it’s time to get editing!

For many, this is the difficult part. But it needn’t be!

If you’d prefer to stay away from more complicated, PC-based editing programs there are a whole host of free-to-download apps that help you trim together your blog right on your mobile phone.

They’re easy to use and resemble some of the simpler editing programs on the market.

But that’s all you really need!

Once you’ve pieced together the puzzle that is your adventure holiday, it’s time to get it online.

Again, uploading content online has never been easier.

YouTube will be your primary target, and depending on the editing app you use it may even give you the option to upload straight to YouTube once you’ve completed your cut.

You’ll need to set up a Google account for this if you don’t already have one.

Or alternatively you could upload the video to your social media profiles like Facebook.

Facebook in particular has spent a lot of time and effort improving its video service and video viewing on the platform has never been higher.

View numbers are all well and good. But the real point of making a vlog is to have fun while you’re doing it.

The same goes for a blog.

If you aren’t enjoying documenting your experiences for others to see, don’t bother. Just focus on enjoying your own adventure holiday.

But if you’re the type of person that loves to make others smile and you think they could benefit from seeing what you’ve seen and hearing what you have to say… Do it!

At Whereabouts Holidays we’ve got tons of brilliant adventure holidays you’ll want to share with all your friend and family when you get back. Just don’t forget to give us a mention in the blog or vlog!
