Bucket lists. We all should have one, right? We might not write it down on paper, but somewhere, tucked away in our head, is a list of things we want to do and places we want to visit before we are no longer able to. For some its experiencing living in another country, while for others it’s fulfilling a lifelong ambition to scale a mountain. Whatever is on your list, its likely to involve travel, and if doesn’t, we’re going to try and convince you to add one of our best adventure vacations to your bullet points. So, here it goes, our top five adventure holidays abroad!
Galapagos Adventure Holidays Abroad
When people talk about adventure holiday destinations, chances are the Galapagos Islands will crop up in the conversation. Famed for its links with Charles Darwin and his explorations on HMS Beagle, our Galapagos Islands adventure holiday will treat you to things that you’ve never seen before. Take its rare wildlife for example; from a 50,000-square mile marine reserve to the endless amount of unique bird species in the air, the Galapagos Islands have everything you could ever dream of when it comes to finding a good family holiday. We love it so much that we now offer two holidays to this beautiful region, both of which offer you the chance to explore via cruise ship. The first travels to the Eastern Galapagos and the second allows you a nine-day excursion around the Western and Northern Galapagos Islands.
Kilimanjaro Adventure Holidays Abroad
You probably have heard of people climbing Kilimanjaro, and most them will claim to it being one of the best adventures they’ve ever been on. Dreaming of joining them? Now you can with our double peak Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro Summit adventure holiday. Our ascent of the dormant volcano of Mt Meru involves a wonderful 4-day trek, leading through pleasant game-filled parkland and then bamboo forest and moorland, to the dramatic crater rim. You’ll summit Mt Meru at sunrise and look across to the magnificent snow-capped Kilimanjaro to the east. A further bonus to this itinerary is our game drive in the Arusha National Park after climbing Meru. This outstandingly beautiful reserve is home to giraffe, herds of buffalo, warthog, the black-and-white colobus monkey and even elephants.
Patagonia Adventure Holidays Abroad
Home to jaw dropping scenery, granite towers, incredible lakes, cascading waterfalls and beautiful glaciers, Patagonia is one of the world’s last great wildernesses and one of the most incredible adventure holiday destinations for a South America trekking holiday. Starting in El Calafate, a colourful Argentinian town and the gateway to Patagonia, our adventure holiday to this stunning corner of the earth will take you across breath-taking scenery to the award-winning Eco Camp in Torres del Paine National Park. You’ll trek over the impressive John Gardner Pass, walk up the dramatic Frances Valley and hike beside Lake Nordenskjold. The highlight is the final walk up to the base of the famed Paine Towers through a landscape home to guanaco, Andean grey fox, condor, deer and the elusive puma.
Everest Adventure Holidays Abroad
Of all the adventure holiday destinations you can think off, Mount Everest is certainly a must to add to your bucket list, and with our very own Everest Basecamp Trek you can make that dream become a reality. Within little more than 2 weeks, this is your chance to visit the Everest Basecamp, hike up to the exceptional viewpoint of Kala Pattar at sunset and to experience the wonderful mountain scenery of the Khumbu. A memorable flight from Kathmandu to the airstrip at Lukla provides access to an alpine world where the air is crystal clear and colourful prayer flags flutter from the rooftops. Following the famous ‘Everest Trail’, we trek to the prosperous village of Namche Bazaar where you’ll spend a day resting and acclimatising, before continuing our trek alongside the torrential Imja Khola to the high valley below Everest. This gives us the best possible preparation for our final trek from Lobuche to Everest Basecamp and means we only have to spend 1 night at Gorak Shep. Providing outrageous mountain views and a wonderful insight into the way of life of the hardy Sherpas, this is the perfect trip for a first visit to Nepal and the Himalayas.
Northern Lights Adventure Holidays Abroad
Hot temperatures not really your thing? Well, here’s one of our best adventure holidays abroad and it’s most definitely a good family holiday to try. It is of course, our Northern Lights adventure holiday. We head up to the Abisko National Park, 200km north of the Arctic Circle on snowshoes in search of the Northern Lights. Snowshoes are the best way to explore here and the technique is easy to master making this the perfect holiday for those new to winter activities. With the dark nights and the area’s favourable climate on our side, if the solar activity is good, you have a fantastic chance of seeing the Northern Lights from here. We stay in mountain cabins beside the frozen Lake Alejsaure for 2 nights practicing our snowshoe technique before heading back to Abisko for an evening free to relax followed by a day of optional activities with dog sledding, ice climbing or Nordic skiing on offer.
