Vikki and John from Bournemouth went on the Fat Biking in the Bear Kingdom holiday in March 2018. Comment: "We have just spent 5 days in Martinselkonen Wilds Centre. A family run company located in Suomussalmi Finland. The old border guard station has been transformed into comfortable en-suite rooms with the use of 'The Best Sauna'. The centre is surrounded by forest and the only noise you can hear are the woodpeckers and bird song. All meals are prepared from fresh ingredients including berries, mushrooms (oh that amazing mushroom soup we had in the wilderness!) Salmon and game from the forest. Fat biking was on prepared trails through the Martinselkonen nature conservation area and across frozen lakes. The distance varied each day and we could ride at our prefered speed. Riding on snow was sometimes challenging but most of all great fun and once comfortable with the bikes which are built especially for Finnish winter conditions rewarded us with some of the best memories ever. The trails are beautiful. A winter wonderland and so quiet. We occasionally came across animal trails in the snow. There are huts in the forest we stopped at where a roaring fire was prepared outside so we could cook sausages and have lunch and sit and take in the magical surroundings. The snow glistening like thousands of diamonds." To find out more about this holiday, see the itinerary here
