If you’re the type of person that used to love walking but have lost touch with what made it so special for you, maybe it’s about time you rediscovered your love of walking? It’s Valentine’s Day after all!
Here are a few ways you can fall in love with the great outdoors again:
Walking Holidays in Europe
Let’s get the best point out of the way first!
If you love walking but you’ve never been on walking holidays in Europe, what are you waiting for?!
There are so many spectacular, serene and simply stunning locations for you to discover, you’ll never run out of options. Because that’s the best part; you wont be rushing around from town to town in a car or on a train, where you might miss part of the action. No, you’ll be unravelling your own adventure through the power of your own two feet!
Found a quaint little Spanish town you want to spend some time exploring? You can! Or how about sticking around and sampling the many views of the Algarve? There’s nothing stopping you.
You make your own way, at your own pace, and you get the chance to get to grips with a location without rushing. Isn’t that what walking is all about?
Getting your legs back
Let’s be honest: If you’ve totally fallen out of love with walking, chances are you haven’t headed out on a good old fashioned trek in a while. Right?
While this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, when you do eventually decide to don the walking boots again, you may find your legs and your stamina aren't what they used to be.
Our bodies become accustomed to the regular physical activity we put them through. If, for whatever reason, that physical activity suddenly stops (if you stop walking regularly) your body won’t just sit back and relax. It’ll revert back to the stage when you got no exercise at all.
Muscle mass will reduce, bone density will suffer, and it’ll be an overall setback for your physical condition. Because, as you know, walking is one of the best ways to keep your body healthy.
The absolute best thing you can do to get your legs back (and to fall back in love with walking) is to get out on the road again. Take it slow at first, but with time, you’ll get there again.
Now, speaking of walking boots...
New Walking Gear
There’s nothing like a new shiny toy to get you back into your favourite hobby!
And, if your hobby was walking and walking holidays in Europe, you might be in need of an upgrade. We all love our tried-and-tested gear but, after a while, it’s very easy for it to become overworn and tatty. Especially for a hobby like walking which may pit you against the elements from time to time.
If you want to get back into the hobby you love, maybe invest in some new walking boots, a new coat or some high-quality breathable shirts and shorts. Gear yourself up for all weather conditions and you’ll always be prepared!
If you’ve been visiting the same-old places you always enjoy walking, that’s all well and good. But it can be easy for your favourite walking routes to become stale over time.
If you want to inject a bit more excitement into your walking routine, consider walking somewhere new. A whole new country is a good place to start!
There are too many places you need to see for you to stick with a select few that are close to home for the rest of your life. Austria is always a favourite, thanks to it’s inspiring open plains, mountainous peaks and gleaming rivers and lakes.
If ever there was a reason to fall in love with the great outdoors again, it’s the chance to tick some must-see locations off your walking bucket list!
