Program Capacity: 20 Programme Focuses will get involved in a variety of activities such as:
Our women's empowerment program aims to support and increase opportunities for women and girls in the Limón province of Costa Rica.
An average day will involve planning, preparing, and running workshops and sessions for women and girls in our local community.
Our sessions cover a wide array of topics, depending on the interests of the community during a specific time. Examples could include teaching English, IT literacy, sports and exercise, health and wellbeing, and vocational skills. These sessions are focused on facilitating a comfortable atmosphere where women of varying ages can feel confident and be able to learn.
We also run monthly sessions to support female entrepreneurs in the local community through our project partner AMICREO.
As part of your program you might also be planning and leading weekly sessions with girls at the local secondary school, delivering workshops on gender equality to community groups, or you might be asked to support vocational trainings for women.
As a volunteer on the Women's Empowerment programme you will get the opportunity to gain a broad range of experiences and be involved in various different sustainable women's empowerment initiatives. You will work closely with on-ground staff to learn what makes a sustainable community project and how to support the on-going initiatives in the community as well as sometimes help build new programs to address new needs of the community.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), otherwise known as the Global Goals, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity
